Friday charter day, Comino lunch run, Saturday fishing off Marfa — the cooler that came down from the saloon two summers ago has finally given up, and the bag of ice you topped up at Mosta on Friday morning is a puddle by the time you drop anchor at Blue Lagoon. This is the fix.
The 55L Marine Fridge-Freezer is a proper compressor unit in a portable body. Not a peltier box, not a styrofoam apology — a real DC compressor that drops to -20°C in 45 minutes, holds catch-of-the-day frozen on the way back to harbour, and switches between fridge and freezer with a button. 28 half-litre bottles plus the day's snacks, or three days of provisions for a Gozo crossing.
It runs straight off your boat's 12V/24V system through the included DC cable, draws around 0.18 kWh/day in eco mode (you will not flatten the battery on a calm anchorage), and an internal voltage cutoff protects you from accidentally killing your start battery — set the threshold low/medium/high in the app. Mains 230V at the marina via the included EU adapter; or hook up to any portable power station.
The split-lid design matters at sea: the freezer side stays closed while you fish snacks and drinks out of the fridge side, and the latch holds firm in chop instead of flapping open on a swell. Internal LED so you can find the limoncello at midnight without opening the saloon lights. Lockable hinges, reinforced corners, an ABS shell that wipes clean of saltwater and fish blood, rubber wheels and a telescopic handle for the trolley walk down the pontoon.
App control over Bluetooth: temperature, eco/max mode, battery monitor, fault alerts. Works with iOS and Android. The app remembers settings between trips so you do not start every weekend by re-entering 4°C.
IMPORTANT — gas type, voltage and adapter: this is a compressor cooler (no LPG, no propane), 12V / 24V DC and 230V AC. A Type G power adapter for Maltese mains sockets is included. CE marked, R134a refrigerant.
